Here's an introduction to the game, via Square Enix:
After its release in 1986, the Dragon Quest series has become a phenomenon, attracting a large number of fans around the world and laying the foundation for the RPG role-playing game genre. The game series features graphics and simple, intuitive controls of the classic RPG game series.
The series begins with Dragon Quest, where the player begins their journey with a character called 'Hero', a descendant of the brave hero Erdrick to join the adventure in the kingdom of Alefgard. Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line takes place a century later, where the young prince of Midenhall begins his journey to search for two other Erdrick descendants to destroy Hargon. The third and final game in the series, Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, takes players through the land of Aliahan, where a young hero must shoulder an impossible task, which is to kill Baramos, owner of the dark.
